Celebrating Chanukah

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, begins at sundown the night after this show but we’re celebrating early. I offered two lengthy sets of music related to this early winter religious observance that celebrates the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem in 165 B.C. after gaining freedom from the oppression of Syrian rulers. It is a celebration of religious freedom and the light of freedom triumphing over darkness.

The shorter sets during the program highlighted artists who will be performing in our broadcast area during the next week, including two members of Annalivia who will be joining our old friend John Whelan for an “Irish Christmas” show at Sacred Heart University where WSHU is situated.
